In 2023, the pace of China's green and low-carbon energy transformation will accelerate, and renewable energy will maintain a good trend of high speed development, high proportion utilization and high quality consumption. At the same time, new energy storage installations are rising rapidly, and new technologies are emerging, which strongly supports the construction of new power systems. Orderly progress was made in building a multi-tiered electricity market, and the consumption of new energy was effectively increased.
The competitive advantages of wind power photovoltaic are prominent
The coastal city of Taizhou in Zhejiang province is abundant in wind power. In 2023, Yuhuan No. 2 offshore Wind farm, the largest offshore wind farm in eastern Zhejiang, was officially started. The wind farm will become the world's first 220 kV flexible low-frequency technology transmission offshore wind farm, effectively improving the transmission line transmission capacity, transmission distance and transmission efficiency, said Chen Yiming, special responsibility administrator of the development department of State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company.
In 2023, the total installed capacity of renewable energy in China has continuously exceeded 1.3 billion kilowatts and 1.4 billion kilowatts, reaching 1.45 billion kilowatts, accounting for more than 50% of the total installed capacity of power generation in the country, and historically exceeded the installed capacity of thermal power. The annual installed capacity of wind power photovoltaic doubled, nearly 60% of the global annual installed capacity.
The international competitive advantage of wind power photovoltaic industry has been further highlighted. In 2023, the output of key components such as wind turbines will account for more than 70% of the global market, and the output of photovoltaic polysilicon, silicon wafers, cells and modules will account for more than 80% of the global market.
Driven by technological innovation, in 2023, the world's first 16 MW offshore wind turbine independently developed by China will be successfully connected to the grid for power generation, and the first deep-sea floating wind power platform "CNOOC Guanlan", which is more than 100 kilometers offshore and more than 100 meters deep, will be successfully put into operation. A number of leading demonstration projects such as the large-scale hydrogen production of Xinjiang Kuqa photovoltaic by Sinopec and the Kubuqi Desert photovoltaic control by the Three Gorges Group were completed and put into operation.
Li Chuangjun, director of the New Energy and renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, said that in 2023, China's renewable energy has maintained rapid development, which has played an important role in ensuring power supply, promoting energy transformation, expanding effective investment, increasing foreign trade exports, and reducing the cost of electricity in the whole society.
New energy storage becomes the key
New energy has the characteristics of intermittency, volatility, randomness, etc. In order to achieve a high proportion of grid connection, it is necessary to improve the adjustment capacity of the power system, and the development of new energy storage has become a key starting point. Data from the National Energy Administration show that by the end of 2023, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage projects in the country has reached 31.39 million kilowatts / 66.87 million kilowatt-hours, and the average energy storage time is 2.1 hours. In 2023, the new installed capacity will be about 22.6 million kW / 48.7 million KWH, an increase of more than 260% from the end of 2022.
Bian Guangqi, deputy director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Science and Technology equipment of the National Energy Administration, said that new energy storage is becoming a key technology for the construction of a new energy system and a new power system, an important direction for cultivating emerging industries, and an important starting point for promoting green low-carbon transformation of energy production and consumption. Since the "14th Five-Year Plan", the new type of energy storage installed capacity has directly promoted economic investment of more than 100 billion yuan.
At the same time of scale growth, new energy storage technology routes are blooming. Since last year, a number of 300 MW compressed air energy storage projects, 100 MW liquid flow battery energy storage projects, megawatt-level flywheel energy storage projects have started construction, and new technologies such as gravity energy storage, liquid air energy storage, and carbon dioxide energy storage have been implemented, showing an overall diversified development trend.
The construction of new energy storage has strongly promoted the development and consumption of new energy. In recent years, new energy power generation in Anhui Province has gradually occupied half of the power supply. State grid Huaibei power supply company power dispatching control center director Zhu bin said: "Huaibei area energy storage power station connected to the grid installed capacity of 161,600 kilowatts, the Mid-Autumn Festival National Day holiday last year, Huaibei area energy storage power station participated in the regional grid peak adjustment 41 times, the consumption of new energy power 3.116,800 KWH, for the key period of new energy consumption played an important role."
Bian Guangqi said that in the next step, the National Energy Administration will carry out research on relevant measures to promote the deployment of new energy storage, guide the scientific call of new energy storage, and further play the role of system support and regulation.
The electricity market mechanism has been continuously improved
At present, new energy has entered a stage of large-scale and high-quality development, and it is urgent to promote the green transformation of energy and power production mode through market mechanism innovation, promote the formation of green and low-carbon lifestyle, and help achieve the "double carbon" goal.
China actively promotes the construction of a unified national electricity market system, and market-based transaction electricity continues to rise. Liu Gang, deputy director of the market supervision department of the National Energy Administration, said that last year, the national electricity market traded 5.7 trillion KWH of electricity, an increase of 7.9%, accounting for 61.4% of the total electricity consumption of the society, an increase of 0.6 percentage points over the previous year.
"The market reform of electricity has continued to deepen, and the share of market-oriented electricity transactions has risen from less than 17 percent in 2016 to more than 61 percent in 2023, and the market mechanism has played a decisive role in resource allocation." Liu Gang said.
It is worth noting that the medium - and long-term trading of electricity has been normalized throughout the country, accounting for more than 90% of market electricity, giving full play to the role of "ballast stone" and stabilizing the overall market size and transaction price. The cross-provincial and cross-regional medium - and long-term market operated smoothly, and the inter-provincial spot market adjusted surplus and shortage, which played a positive role in optimizing the allocation of power resources on a large scale.
In the critical period of peak summer and winter power supply, cross-provincial and cross-regional market-oriented trading mechanism has played a positive role in inter-provincial power support and mutual relief and supply. The power auxiliary service mechanism has an annual mining system adjustment capacity of more than 117 million kilowatts, and an annual average of more than 120 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy generation.
